These scarce coins were discovered on an unknown vessel, perhaps a merchant or pirate ship. When the remains of the vessel were discovered, it contained several chests of 8 Reales. These coins are also known as Spanish Piece of Eight. They were cut into 8 pieces/bits to provide a smaller denomination. 8 Reales Cob from Spice Islands Shipwreck were minted in the New World mints of Mexico City. These coins still have that nice historic beauty after being on the ocean floor for almost 400 years. Each of these coins is unique because they were hand hammered.
